Sunset Project

I am so excited to finally share this project with you guys! I had the pleasure of working with two friends from high school, renovating their kitchen and master bathroom in preparation for the arrival of their first child. They own a sweet cottage home in the heart of Athens. It was a mixture of original and outdated “updates” from the early 2000s.

In the Kitchen we focused on bringing life back by deleting the bead board ceiling, incorporating hardwoods into the space, new quartzite countertops, backsplash tile and refinishing the cabinets with a fresh coat of lacquer paint. We also updated the lighting by added LED recessed lighting and a few modern pendants. Before the kitchen was dark and it really made the space feel small. With a new baby coming, and all the baby things, giving them a brighter more functional space was key. So we also decided to widen the opening into the kitchen from the foyer/living area to give the space a more natural flow.

As for the bathroom, it was a complete overhaul! It is difficult to show the before pictures because the space changed SO drastically within a small perimeter. Originally the bathroom was all to the left. Very small and very tight! There was a small room off the back of the house with an exterior door to the backyard that was more of a flex space. We took all of that space to make the new master bathroom and closet.

We were able to create a T shaped floor plan for the bathroom by placing the tub in the center of the back wall, widening the doors into the bathroom and flanking a vanity on each side. Behind one vanity you have the walk in shower, and behind the other is the water closet. We closed in a closet from the bedroom side and opened it into the bathroom for a built-in linen closet for extra storage! To be cohesive with the kitchen and the rest of the home, we continued the light and neutral tones in the bathroom with marbled tiles and modern fixtures. We mixed warm and cool metal finishes to give this space a more lived-in feel without locking into one single finish.

I loved being able to help out some friends from my past! And as always, reflecting back on the entire transformation of a project is always my favorite part.

Thanks for following along!
